The Five Heroes of Langya Mountain

page01

The Langya Mountain, located in Hebei Province, China, became a significant battlefield during the Second Sino-Japanese War. This story recounts a heroic act of five Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-led Eighth Route Army soldiers who made a courageous sacrifice during a major Japanese "mopping-up" operation in 1941. Their bravery remains a powerful symbol of resistance and patriotism in China.

In the autumn of 1941, the Japanese invaders launched a large-scale "mopping-up" operation on Langya Mountain. The main force of the Eighth Route Army's Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region's First Sub-district had shifted to external operations, leaving the Seventh Company of the First Regiment to contain the enemy. The struggle was incredibly difficult.

During one battle, when the Sixth Squad was ordered to draw the enemy to the summit of Langya Mountain, after a bitter fight, only five brave warriors remained, and their ammunition was exhausted. There was no retreat, and they could no longer fight. To avoid being captured by the enemy, the five heroes successively smashed their rifles and leaped from the ten-thousand-foot cliff. These five brave warriors proved themselves worthy sons of the Chinese nation, cultivated by the Party, and Langya Mountain became an indestructible historical testament to the Chinese nation.
